A lawsuit filed by two Indiana teenagers over a parasailing accident has settled. Apparently, the teens were parasailing in Panama City, FL, with a local operator when they were pushed into the side of a hotel. The impact was violent enough that it broke a metal railing that was located outside one of the hotel rooms. Further, there was amateur video taken of a portion of the accident sequence.
It is not surprising to me that this case settled. Even in our cell camera crazed world, very few accidents have videotaped evidence available. When a case does have videotape available, especially dramatic videotape as seen here, it usually leads to a quick and fair settlement. A witness’s spoken description of an accident can never do an accident justice like videotape can. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then video is worth a million. Unfortunately, most cases cannot depend on the fortuity of video of the accident being available.
